What is Tierrasanta Project/Village of San Diego?

  • It is a grassroots effort bringing the Beacon Hill Village (BHV) membership model beaconhillvillage.org to the Tierrasanta community, and we invite you to visit their website where you can learn more about what is in place in the Beacon Hill area of Boston, Massachusetts. Our plan is to tailor this model for Tierrasanta resident members who are age 50 and older.  Changes under consideration:

    • SDSU Social Research Lab recently analyzed the 300+ surveys completed by Tierrasanta residents and 98% of those surveyed want to age in place.  We also know they want social/educational connections NOW.  We will develop the Village in phases.

    • Soon to be launched will be an Introductory Phase which will offer a monthly social/educational opportunity and a volunteer generated service provider referral list (non vetted).  Tierrasanta residents (age 50 and older) need to let us know if they would like us to contact them when we are ready to launch this phase.  We intend to establish a membership base large enough to support Phase One at its launch.

    • Phase One will have expanded social/educational choices and a member volunteer service and transportation network.

    • This Member Volunteer Service and Transportation Network may be either 'Time Banking' based or TVSD Bucks (internal economy) based.   Our Resources Group will work out these two forms to help us  determine which will work best for our community.

    • Phase Two will offer a full menu of Concierge Services, exercise classes, and weekly trips to the grocery store.

    • Phase Three will offer in-home Healthcare Oversight.
    • We know there will be a membership level to staff ratio.  A fixed number of staff to serve a fixed number of members.  TVSD Membership will be made available on a first come, first served basis.  We are considering offering Charter memberships at Phase One that will assure those members the ability to advance to the next Phase when it becomes available.

    • After launch and confirmed sustainability, we will concentrate on developing a 'Membership Plus Program' for low income residents.  This will require going after grant and foundation monies to subsidize memberships.

  • Beacon Hill Village model was developed as a non-profit membership organization which serves members age 50 and older. The 'Village' concept provides the practical means and the confidence for its members to be able to live their lives to the fullest in their own homes as they grow older.

  • This membership model allows for a consistency, continuity, and accountability which is difficult to maintain in an all-volunteer organization.

  • Tierrasanta Project is very interested in the encouragement of Active Aging and will make available opportunities for members to become involved in their areas of interest as well as their community.

  • The Founders of Tierrasanta Project, say it is an 'offspring' of Beacon Hill Village.  We are changing our name  to "Tierrasanta Village of San Diego".

Mission Statement:

To enable Tierrasanta Resident Members, age 50 and older, to have the practical means and the confidence to be able to live their lives to the fullest in their own homes as they grow older.

Our Purpose:

We are living longer, more active lives, yet increased mobility and smaller families mean that many of us find ourselves some distance from close relatives.  We want to create a network of social connections, events, information, and support services that will permit Tierrasanta resident members to live conveniently, safely, and happily as they grow older - in their own homes.

Donations and Pledges:

We are looking for a fiscal sponsor that will allow those who donate to our Village, a tax deductible expense.  Stay tuned and we will post that information soon.

Meanwhile, we welcome your pledges.  Your pledge tells us that you support this membership model.  A form can be found by clicking on the link below which you can download.  Then fill out the pledge and mail it to our P.O. Box.

Thank you for supporting this grassroots effort in our community.
